Design that Restores: Transforming Lives in Brazil
In Assis, Brazil, nestled among busy streets and small neighborhoods, was a shelter in need of restoration. Neglected and run-down, it was a far cry from the safe haven it should have been. But when Patricia Myers, our Junior Designer (and co-founder of Open Arms Worldwide), stumbled upon this forgotten shelter, she knew she had to take action. If you know her at all, you know once she decides to help, there is no stopping her!
A Call to Action: Partnering with Wellhouse
With a big heart and a vision of transformation, Patricia wasted no time in asking Wellhouse for help. Together, they devised furniture layouts, design plans, and custom painting ideas to breathe new life into the shelter. The challenges were plentiful—bathrooms without working doors, peeling paint, a kitchen lacking modern appliances and storage rooms full of unused items. But armed with determination and a dedicated team of volunteers, Patricia returned to Brazil to oversee the execution of the planned renovations. The result? Nothing short of miraculous!
A Brighter Future: Clean, Cheerful, and Inviting
Thanks to the support of Open Arms missionaries and a vast network of volunteers, the shelter underwent a remarkable transformation. What was once a place of despair became a haven of hope—a clean, cheerful, and inviting environment where children could thrive. The Open Arms team then returned to add a classroom and a covered outdoor play area. It was a testament to their love for God and their unwavering commitment to the well-being of the children in their community.
While Wellhouse's role may have been small , it served as a powerful reminder to us that our living environments shape who we are and can bring us restoration. If we can use our talents to make a difference for even one child, it's all worth it!
